Holibrook Therapy
Our Therapeutic Approach
At Holibrook House we provide a therapeutic, nurturing and supportive environment in which our children and young people can thrive and grow. All children need kindness and it's what we endeavour to achieve with our children.
The holistic approach to their care is focused around STREAM (Strong Therapeutic Restoring Environment & Assessment Model), which we have developed.
STREAM encapsulates two main themes, which we aim to achieve:
-
The creation of an environment and culture in our homes and school that will aid the healing and restorative process.
-
To carry out comprehensive needs assessment to identify the level of functioning in the young person and from this to develop an effective, individualised treatment plan.

STREAM is underpinned by the various theoretical perspectives which focus on working with children and young people.
A Place to Grow: Supportive and Creative Therapy for Young People
Unfortunately, most of the children who come to Holibrook House have not had this satisfactory beginning to their emotional lives. This is why Holibrook House provide a therapeutic space in all of their homes.
Ellen Maslin is the in-house therapist at Holibrook House and an HCPC-registered Creative Arts Psychotherapist. She has extensive experience working with children and adults with neurodiversities, including ADHD and Autism, as well as researching and applying culturally responsive frameworks in therapy. Ellen brings a compassionate and inclusive approach, ensuring that each young person’s unique background and experiences are acknowledged and supported.
Ellen is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a clinically proven approach to support individuals in processing and overcoming trauma and PTSD. This allows her to offer a comprehensive therapeutic experience tailored to the unique needs of the young people at Holibrook House.
In addition to her direct work with young people, Ellen offers fortnightly or monthly reflective practice sessions to staff members during their team meetings. These sessions help support staff in becoming more aware of the psychological impact of their work, their working relationships, and their interactions with the young people. This not only strengthens and unites the team but also enhances their understanding and support of the young people’s experiences within the home.
At Holibrook House, Ellen’s focus is on providing a safe and supportive environment where young people can freely express themselves and work through difficult past experiences and emotions. Her creative approach to therapy includes a range of activities from talking and playing board games to artistic expressions that help articulate emotions in a tangible way. Whether it’s chatting whilst baking cookies, going for walks, or simply having fun, her sessions are designed to help young people build resilience and confidence as they grow.
